Our Lesson Program

At Second Wind Farm, we specialize in barrel racing, pole bending, team roping and break-away roping.

We compete in these events and understand the training and development process for both rider and horse.  Building a firm foundation is important.

Our lesson program is currently limited to riders with their own horses.  We accept outside riders if lesson spots are available.

Our facilities are set up for year round practice.

Our main arena is 125′ x 250′ and is equipped with Priefert roping chutes and footing for speed events.

The 80’x120′ indoor arena provides a place to ride and condition in all types of weather.

To round out what is offered, we maintain a heel-o-matic, a smarty jr and  horned and break away roping cattle for practice purposes.

Barrel Racing

Speed events require a high degree of horsemanship to achieve sustained success in competition.  We focus on horsemanship before speed.  If you can accomplish this first, the second will follow.

We love investing in young people and helping them realize their potential no matter what their goals are.

Our SWF team participates in National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) and International Barrel Racing Association (IBRA) shows.  We also go to area open and saddle club events.  We also have boarders who compete in High School and IPRA Rodeos.

Pole Bending

Pole bending is a fast and furious event demanding precision and perfect timing.  Slow work translates into consistent runs and better teamwork between horse and rider.

Our team competes in National Pole Benders Association (NPBA) sanctioned events as well as High School Rodeo and Saddle Club shows.

Team Roping

Team roping can be a life long family sport.

We host clinics and help new ropers get started.

Second Wind Farm has a premiere roping pen complete with Priefert roping chutes and live cattle.

We also maintain a heel-o-matic for slow work.

Break Away Roping

Break away roping is an up and coming sport.  We support ropers wanting to sharpen their skills by having a smarty jr and live calves available to rope.
